The mayor and police chief were force to apologize last week when they were surprised by the strong reaction to systematic police ticketing and harassment of the homeless. One police operation outside the Shalom Center nearly caused a riot on Wednesday when people massed to fight back against the bullies in blue. A memo, apparently false, was also leaked in protest, purportedly an embarrassing directive by the mayor to make South Walnut more business-friendly by cleansing the area of homeless and poor people.
The reaction continues tomorrow, 1/29 at 1:30 pm, with a self-organized demo of the homeless against police abuse. It starts outside the Shalom Center.
